The proper way of how to accurately check semi trailer tandem axle alignments, according to all suspension manufacturers and semi trailer OEMs, is to use quality made heavy duty axle/wheel end extension tools. They all agree that taking measurements to either the wheel rims or to any position inboard of the tires is little more than guesswork. Using quality, precision made axle wheel end extenders will significantly increase the accuracy of your alignments.
The Axletrac semi trailer axle alignment tools are made of 7/32" heavy wall steel tubing and 3/4" solid steel pins, that will survive any shop environment. There are no exposed external threads that can be damaged if dropped on concrete, yes it does happen! Each wheel consist of two extension tubes that have internal threads on one end that attach to the hub piloted wheel studs and one span bar that is inserted into the two extension tubes.
The inserted pins are 3/4" by 3inches long and because of this patented design assures that the extension tubes are aligned perfectly with the studs and centers on the axle end assuring a precise alignment. The design is what makes our tools so accurate. Don't waste your time and money on any tool that won't perform accurately and last a lifetime.
